Ontario Cabin Getaway Guide

Last week we packed up the car and hit the road for a little (much needed) wilderness getaway in the Ottawa Valley. Here are some of our recommendations for when your mind needs a rest and your spirit needs some space.

Cabinscape’s Joni Cabin in Packenham, ON

We booked the idyllic Joni cabin by the wonderful Cabinscape. Joni is in Packenham and their three other locations are all located in a range of areas outside of Toronto. We stayed for four days in October and didn’t need to book too much in advance, although it does fill up in the summer months.

Joni sleeps three, but was just comfortable for two. It’s a tiny cabin, so packing light is a must. Some highlights include an outdoor rainhead shower, indoor/outdoor breakfast bar, and a couple short hikes on the property. If you’re interested, you can also book a brewery tour at Cartwright Springs Brewery, whose property the cabin is located on.

Cabinscape’s hosts were on hand with very quick replies at all hours of the day and night when we had questions for them. The cabin is solar powered and washing water is pumped up from the creek – comfortable, but for the conscious-minded.

Eat & Drink

Hike! We did a few of varying lengths and difficulties:

A note: ticks and Lyme disease are a very real concern throughout Ontario. Be prepared.

After our week of hiking we indulged with a day at Le Nordik, a Scandinavian Spa in Chelsea, Québec. The thermal circuit was a perfect way to finish up a week in the wilderness. Be sure not to miss the Aufguss Ritual (our favourite).
