A few of my favourite things to do and places to eat in Ottawa, my hometown!

Food & Drink

  • Thyme & Again: a pretty stop for quality lunch, coffee, and takeaway meals. This is a good place for a coffee break if you’re walking around Westboro or Hintonburg.

  • Sansotei Ramen: hands down the best place I've found in Ottawa for ramen. Expect a line up, but know that it's worth the wait.

  • Pure Kitchen: a delicious vegan restaurant in Westboro with a beautiful rooftop patio (their coconut bacon even fools meat eaters).

  • Blumenstudio: a café inside a flower shop – that should be enough to convince you!

  • Go for a soak at Le Nordik Spa-Nature: arrive early, block off the day, and bring something to read. This is a spectacular way to enjoy the nature around Ottawa and is a quick 15 minute drive from downtown. Grab a bite to eat in Old Chelsea before you head back to town.

  • Bike around town: enjoy the bike lanes along the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal for a scenic ride

  • Check out the museums: there are fantastic museums in Ottawa and all our national ones are very worth a visit. My personal favourites are the National Gallery, the Museum of Canadian History, and the Museum of Science and Technology.

  • Tour Parliament Hill: free, beautiful, but be sure to get your tickets early in the day because they sell out quickly

  • Catch a film at the Bytowne Cinema: a cute single screen theatre in the heart of downtown. Go grab a bite in the Byward Market before the show starts.

  • Wander through Hintonburg

  • Take a free yoga class on Parliament Hill: Yoga on the Hill starts in May and runs through August. Check it out every Wednesday from 12:00pm - 1:00pm.

  • Lansdowne Farmer’s Market: a pretty market to get nice local produce, prepared food, and fresh flowers

  • terra20: Ottawa's favourite healthy and sustainable lifestyle products, a massive selection

  • Farm Boy: the Trader Joe's of Canada

  • Wabi Sabi: a local shop for unique wool and textile crafting projects

  • Fabrications: a carefully curated selection of notions, fabrics, and patterns

  • Aquatopia Conservatory: an indoor water garden, café, and plant shop
