Ottawa's Best Fabric Stores

Fabrications Ottawa Fabric Store

So many of Ottawa's great sewing stores have closed, so where do you go to get quality supplies for your sewing projects? It's important to me to support local businesses (rather than shopping online), so here are a few of my favourite Ottawa sewing stores:

Where I go

  • Fabrications: the best store in Ottawa for quality and selection of clothing fabrics (including jersey and stretch knits, linen blends, and wovens) with a large collection of quilting cottons as well

  • Ikea: unique and high quality fabrics at a much lower cost per meter than you will find elsewhere

  • Fabricland: the quality of their clothing fabrics has gone down, but Fabricland still has the best selection of (and pricing for) notions and supplies like batting, interfacing, etc

  • C&M Textiles: this store focuses on home textiles for upholstery, indoor/outdoor fabrics, waterproofs, drapery, etc

  • Hintonburg Fabric Flea Market: once a year, arrive early!

  • Thrift stores: Value Village, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and St. Vincent de Paul all usually have a craft / textiles section

Next on my list

  • EcoEquitable: a social enterprise teaching sewing skills to women and help transition them to employment which also has recycled and donated fabrics for sale (their fabric sales are legendary)

  • Flare Fabrics: seemingly a good selection of knits, flannels, waterproofs, linens, cottons, batiks, and organic options
